Afilacan Phoenix

General Description: the phoenix is the largest and most powerfull of the afilacan elder races. Resembling an enormous heron made of shimmering fire, but with the head and tail of a dragon, the phoenix is a both beautiful and awe-inspiring sight. Their legs are a bit shorter than a herons, however, and their talons is as dangerous as their flames. Most phoenixes are a pale golden color, but a few may be true gold or even be closer to green or bronze in color. Phoenixes also have a crest of feathers that runs from the middle of their heads and all the way down their long necks, it is the color of this crest that determine the phoenix' gender.
As it is obvious that the fire a phoenix surrounds itself with would do serious damage to forests and other areas where blazes would be devestating, almost all phoenixes live in deserts. However, there are also rumors about cold phoenixes, creatures of a cold ice-blue flame that live in the polar regions of Afilacan.
It is not known what phoenixes feed on most of the time, but occationally they will attack and kill any group of the younger races that dares to venture into their territories.

Special Abilities: although their talents seem to lay within the element of fire, phoenixes are powerfull users of magic. Even in death, a phoenix' body are filled with magic, so their feathers and other body parts are often much sought after by lesser Mages of the younger races in particular.

Size at birth: 40-50 cm long.
Size at maturity: 100-120 meters long.
Time to maturity: 700 years.

Mental Abilities: smarter than humans, but lacking in empathy for races other than their own. Phoenixes also have a tendency to be coldly logical and it is impossible to get a emotional response from a phoenix over anything.

Breeding.
How often can the creature get pregnant: every 70 years.
How long between pregnancies: depends on the female.
How long is it pregnant: the eggs is laid within days after the mating.
Are all females fertile (barring accidents): yes.
Are all males fertile (barring accidents): yes.
How many offspring can the creature have at once: 2-7.
Is there sex linked traits (like color):

Females have white, silver, green or copper crests.
Males have blue, red, yellow or purple crests.
