Afreet

General Description: the origin of the afreet is not known as they have only recently appeared in the world of Daeyr, but it has been proved against any doubt that they are dark beings who care little for mortals. Afreets are invisible in their true forms, but they may appear as swirling spheres of smokeless fire, whirlwinds or in the form of a coldly beautiful human or elf, a serpent, a wolf or a cat. Caring nothing about mortals, afreets seem determined to end life wherever they come-- powerfull magic-users, they can control the elements of air and fire, creating terrible droughts or sending vicious storms, as well as more subtle things. As they are capable of passing through almost anything, and seem immune to mundane weapons as well as most magic, it is almost impossible to kill or beat one of them. However, for those who know how, it is sometime possible to capture an afreet in a
gem crafted exactly for that puspose. But as afreets are usually capable of sensing someones intentions before they get close enough to try, almost all mortals who have attempted this have died. Still, once the afreet is thus imprisoned, it may be compelled to obey the owner of the imprisoning gem-- provided that the owner is strong enough to command it. Devious, and sometimes seeming to be in possession of a black sense of humor, some afreets apparently take some pleasure in taking on the form of a human or other intelligent being-- luring him or her away from safety, only to reveal itself for him or her and torment the victim physically and mentally, sometimes for weeks.
