Djearian
Homeworld/plane: the homeworld of the djearians is Djandel. A Earth-type planet orbiting a sun that's slightly smaller than Sol, Djandel is rather dry and desert-like due to its proximity to the sun-- significant amounts of water usually occuring only in deep rifts in the planet surface and at the poles.
Climate/terrain: while they evolved in lightly forested areas up by the south pole of their homeworld, djearians are quite adaptive-- capable of surviving in most climates with very little artificial help(as long as they have sufficent food).
Mental abilities: few djearians are less intelligent than the average human, and they seem to have a uncanny ability to foresee the actions of others, this probably due to the fact that they are capable of undestanding the mentality of other races and individuals. As the djearians are counted among the oldest races in the Multiverse, and they aqcuired the ability to travel between planets while quite young as a race, they may have evolved this talent as a survival mechanism-- due to that the Multiverse was a far less stable place when they were still young.
Special Abilities: during their existence, the djearians have never been a race to rely much on technology-- this probably due to that their world of origin did not have many of the raw materials required for higher technology. However, as their homeworld was a place where the energies needed for magic ran more freely than in other places, they learned how to use magic while still a fledgling race. But as communication with other magic-using races was mostly non-existent at the time they discovered magic and figured out how to use it, their modern way of using magic is a mix of the commonly used way and their own ways.
While they are capable of channeling the energies through themselves as is the way it's done by other magic-users, djearian talents prefer to use specially craftes spheres of crystal or metal to channel magical energy through-- so djearian magic-users are refered to as sphere wielders in the language of their race. If using a sphere to work magic through, a djearian sphere wielder may be capable of using more than energy-- even if using magic of the same 'alignment', like the neutral energies, comes the easiest. All djearian magic-users craft their spheres themselves to make sure that they are tuned right, most will only have two spheres at a time, and the spheres has been crafted to somehow reflect the wielder's personality.
Society: although there are little difference between the ranks of the genders in djearian society, it is mostly a matriarchal one-- the females rule and handle most contact with other races, while the males are responsible for the defence of their worlds. Djearians often look down at those races that are more dependent on mechanical technology, while the magic-users among them are widely respected-- they are also expected to dedicate their lives to work for society and using magic only for personal gain is generally frowned upon.
Description: the djearians are a race of semi-humanoids. In build, they are quite like a tall and muscular human, however, as their muscles doesn`t 'bulge' as much as you see at some humans, they are somewhat rounder of build. A djearian`s head strongly resembles that of a snake, but the head is more domed to allow for a larger brain and the jaw is slightly shorter and stronger. Djearians also have two poison fangs on each side of the upper jaw, these are always folded back when not in use; if the fangs are visible, it is a sign of anger, agression or anxiousness. The 'hide' of a djearian is completely covered in tiny, but tough scales, these usually being a soft silver-grey color, a djearians eyes are always silvery-green and very like those of a cat`s.
While there are little difference in size or appearance between the genders, the females tend to be wider in the hip-area and their legs are a bit longer, while the males will often engrave complex patterns on their scales-- usually something that tells about the male's accomplishments and personality.
Combat: fighting and war is usually the domain of the males, their strategic abilities and knowledge of how to use magic to their advantage in a combat, djearian fighters are quite skilled. However, what other races would consider honor is not something that they see as important-- if a group of fighters can trick the enemy or kill them from afar, they will do so without hesitation.
"Hit your opponent or a potential opponent before he can hit you".
While a djearian fighter will usually kill an opponent quickly, there are times when someone may possess essential information-- and for those cases there are always some especially trained Talented fighters in a group. These individuals, called pain givers, are responsible for interrogating a captive that may have usefull information-- using a mix of telepathy and magic to force the captive to give the information. In addition to being skilled magic-users, the pain givers are also throughoutly schooled in the physiology and mentality of most other races.
Race weaknesses: djearians cannot tolerate caffeine very well, small doses may cause severe headaches-- larger doses are usually fatal as the caffeine blocks the nerve transmitters in the brain.
