Kangard Unicorn.

General Description: originating from one of the sub-universes of the Sretane universe, the kangard unicorns are a fairly out of the ordinary species(for unicorns at least). The body of a kangard unicorn is similar to that of a greyhound, with a slender neck and a head that looks much like a mix of horse and deer-- a silver, blade-like horn growing from the forehead. A kangard unicorn's tail is twice the lenght of its body, silky hair of varying lenght growing at the underside, ending in a large tuft. The black coat hairs are fairly short, but in addition to the mane, the coat is generally longer at the elbows and chin. Colored like polished steel and split like a deer's, the hooves of a kangard unicorn are every bit as sharp as they look.

Unlike the standard unicorn however, kangard unicorns are omnivorous, often leaning more towards the carnivorous side-- their teeth being much like those of a dog's. While by no means evil, they have a somewhat open definition of what's acceptable food, though they will usually leave sapients alone(unless someone happens to really annoy them). Towards other races, they are relatively friendly, but being a race that enjoys fighting-- it has often happened that they jump on even minor offences as an excuse for a battle. However, they generaly avoid full scale wars, to them battles are an enjoyable pastime and not something that they wish to spend huge amounts of time and resources on. Even if they do prefer the company of their own kind, occationally a kangard unicorn will partner up with a individual of another race whose personality he or she likes. That said, kangard unicorns are not the easiest beings to have as friends, their humor being rather dark as well as physical(bruises and even broken bones not being unusual after-effects).

Quite unusual for an equine race, kangard unicorns have a fully vocal language, they are also quite skilled at learning the languages of other species.

Special Abilities: while lacking telepathy, most kangard unicorns are empathic-- able to pick up the emotions of others when they wish to. Another and less known talent, is their ability for limited shapechanging-- a kangard unicorn can change into any carbon-based lifeform, ranging from half as large to twice as big as them.

Oddities: kangard unicorns are 'born' one week after conception, the unfinished young finishing its development in a pouch at the mother's belly. Foals first begin to venture outside of the pouch when about ten weeks of age.
