Kho`smra(Greyhides)

Homeworld/plane: the kho`smra has no homeworld, but their principal world ship is called Nhremn'lissr.

Climate/terrain: where their greenhide cousins are mainly forest-dwelling, greyhides usually prefer savannas, deserts and dry mountaneous regions where snow rarely falls during wintertime.

Mental abilities: most greyhides are gifted with genius-level intelligence by human standars, but during their evolution, they have lost most of their ability to feel emotions in favor of logic. Relying mostly on their advanced technolgy, greyhides usually care little about magic due to its sometimes unpredictable nature, and they have a tendency to look down at races that are less advanced in the terms of technology than themselves.

Special Abilities: telepathy, which is the favored means of communication. It is believed that some greyhides are born with the Talent, but such individuals are rarely discovered as the greyhides almost never permitt any magic-user onboard their ships. There has been a few cases when a greyhide is born with a talent for magic which is too strong to go untrained however, and those rare cases are usually sent to the nearest school for magic-users.

Society: the greyhides are well known for their spaceships, which most of this race seem to prefer living on rather than settling at any planet. Science and exploration is important to the greyhides, and they often observe and study less advanced races that have yet to make contact with any other race.
Genders are not an issue in greyhide society, as there are none, but as rank is determined by intelligence and how much a individual can contribute to society-- the differences in quality of life can vary considerably between the upper and lower classes. In fact, some of the least fortunate individuals can be considered little more than slaves.
While they do not hide the fact that their race was seperated into two genders in the past, their equialent of males and females, the greyhides changed that millenia ago-- prefering to reproduce through a complex cloning process. Reproduction through physical interaction is generally considered primitive and even disgusting.


Description: the greyhides, or kho`smra that is the real name of this race, is the race known as 'the greys' at our Earth. Ranging from 4-6 feet in height, the greyhides are rather skinny of build, with large heads and small slit-like mouths and nostrils. Their eyes are huge, black and oval in shape, giving them excellent night-vision even in almost total darkness. A greyhide`s skin is usually light silver-grey, although other shades aren`t unusual, there`s greyhides with so light skin that they appear almost pure white and those who have almost black skin. The skin is tough and quite thick, but it still feels quite soft to the touch and usually colder than what`s common in most other humanoid races. Having no real vocal cords, greyhides don`t have any vocal language and due to that, their method of communicating is entirely based on telepathy and empathy(although they still sometimes use the complex sign language that was their way of communicating before the discovery of telepathy). Capable of surviving on sunlight and the energy they get from magic from long periods of time, although they can and do eat when they have the opportunity and feels like doing so.
Size at birth: 40-60 cm long.
Size at maturity: 4-6 feet tall.
Time to maturity: 20 years.
Natural lifespan: 200-250 years.

Combat: to the greyhides, war is generally considered a problem of the less evolved races, and they will generally avoid getting involved whenever possible. This is also reflected in their means of defence-- not likely to waste time with a prolonged fight, any agressors are likely to be facing the most powerfull weapons of the greyhide ships right away. Most greyhide weapons are energy-based, but some weapons are also designed to generate massive black holes or imprison enemy forces in a rapidly shrinking and powerfull energy shield. However, only lately they have began to equip their ships with weapons capable of dealing with magic in any significant numbers, after buying such technology from the adrerar and the eluai.
Strangely, when face to face with an opponents, most greyhides are more likely to let themselves be killed rather than lower themselves by resorting to something as primitive as physical violence. If tortured, they may also simply sever the links anchoring the sould to the body permanently.

Race weaknesses: due to their inability to experience most emotions, greyhides also have difficulties with understanding and predicting the reactions of the races that do. And while they have accuired some understanding through research-- on their own and working with other races, there are some younger races that have came to mistrust and even hate them due to things done by the greyhides in the past, before the young race was admitted into the Ring. In fact, the greyhides have been on the receiving end of several wars in the past due to the actions of the more extreme factions within their race.
