Mirror Beast.

General Description: non-physical beings, the mirror beasts are said to be the changed remains of a race experimenting with magical immortality back when the Multiverse was still young. However, as the understanding of magic was still incomplete, their spells did not go quite the way they wished. The race became trapped in the magical weaving they had created-- only capable of re-entering the physical world though mirrors and other highly reflective surfaces(like still water). And with time they adapted to this, eventually learning that there was no limit to where they might travel.
In their true forms, mirror beasts appear to be ever changing forms of silvery glass, resembling mirrors themselves. However, when emmerging into the physical world, they are capable of taking the form of anything that they have seen through a mirror or other reflective surface during the last seven months. But while the majority of mirror beasts are fairly uninterested in the beings of the physical world, others find it facinating to interact with or even torment them. Some mirror beasts have almost made an art of finding just how insane they may drive a physical being, finding feeding of the fear and emotional turmoil they cause quite delicious.
Usually such mirror beasts are ignored by the rest, allowed to continue as they wish. However, occationally they may be convinced to deal with such individuals if what they are offered in return is worth the effort. A couple of times in history though, the mirror beast race has acted openly in the physical world-- once to free enslaved groups of their kind and once to war with a race trying to exterminate them.

Special Abilities: mirror beasts communicate through telepathy and empathy only, they are also quite talented magic-users-- their skills extending through the entire spectrum. In addition to taking on the form of anything it has seen through a reflective surface during the last dew months, a mirror beast can also create 'reflections' of itself when in the physical world-- some as many as two hundred. While these reflections are guided by the original at a basic level, they are quite autonomous and possess some of the abilities of the original.

Oddities: mirror beasts 'feed' of energy, 'emotional energy' often being what they preffer.

Mental Abilities: while often seeming distant and cold, mirror beasts are easily the equals of genius-level humans. And while they do not feel much emotion themselves, they are believed to understand and even mimic emotions in their interactions with other beings.
