Prism Dragon

Homeworld: Meyriss.

Climate/terrain: prism dragons can handle any terrain and climate, but due to their strong connection to Meyriss, they cannot leave their homeworld without the support of a very strong magic-user.

Mental abilities: as they only communicate using mental images and sometimes emotions, it is unclear how intelligent the prism dragons truly are. Certainly they respond to their surroundings, their riders and other creatures, not to forget that they seem rather adept at solving problems, but wether they have a true mind of their own or are just 'reflecting' their riders is not known-- due to that they don't speak.

Special Abilities: prism dragons feed on electricity in any form, they are also capable of calling it to them and absorb amounts so large that it would have killed most other physical beings instantly. They are also capable of somehow holding the electric energy inside them, there are no records of anyone receiving an electric shock when touching a prism dragon.

Other Information: just a few centuries ago, at the planet know as Meyriss, a ship crewed by humanoids not so different from humans crashed in the foothills
of one of the vast mountain ranges at the planet after the ship's systems were fried by the currents of energy around the planet. Devestated by the losses they had suffered in the crash and by the knowledge that it was unlikely that they would ever be rescued, the survivors did their best to get to know their new home and survive. However, the planet was not a hospitable place-- carnivorous pseudo-plants lurked beneath the ground in forests and at plains-- to be short, the creature could be found anywhere but in the mountains. And if that was not bad enough, violent electromagnetic storms haunted the planet-- often creating lightning storms of immense power, this posing a terrible danger to the survivors.
But soon, about five weeks after the ship had went down at the planet, something that would change everything happened. Like they always did, a group of survivors sought refuge from a storm in one of the deep caves in the foothills where they lived-- having been out searching for food and drinkable water. Beyond that a large amount of native crystals in the bottom of the cave somehow responded to the desperate thoughts and need of one young man in the group(who later turned out to be a telepath), none is certain about what made the crystal structures respond in such a remarkable way in the first place.
Somehow understanding the young man's need for protection-- both for him and his kind, the crystal took the form of two dragons made out of living crystal, both
carrying the gems that would one day develop into gemlings. The largest of the two formed a bond with the young man who had caused their creation, while the other waited-- eventually choosing the man's wife...

Description: large even by dragon standars, prism dragons are made out of living crystal-- their huge forms reflecting and changing light in much the same way as the object they have gotten their name from-- often casting iridescent patterns of light around them. The basic form of a prism dragon is much like that of a typical western dragon; with horns, spikes running down their spines, a jagged tail-blade and one pair of wings, however-- the body of a prism dragon is long and slender, and they have five clawed toes at each foot much like the asian-type dragons. Prism dragons have large, faceted eyes that's usually golden or blue and glows with a bright inner light. Being made of living crystal rather than flesh and blood, prism dragons are transparent, but they can move and fly as well as any 'true' race of dragons. Prism dragons doesn't really produce eggs like most other dragons, instead they grow small 'gems' at the tips of their wings. After about 7 seven weeks, the gems drop off the parent and develop into dragonets-- called gemlings after about half a year. Beyond keeping any potential dangers away, the adult prism dragons generally leave the gemlings to fend for themselves till they are old enough to choose a rider.
While prism dragons aren't dependent on Bonding with anyone, most will choose a rider-- giving the Chosen a scale that can be carried as part of a necklace or some other ornament, while the dragon is given a small amount of its rider's blood-- this to form a usually lifelong bond between the two and allowing them to communicate.

Specific Physical Statistics.
Size at birth: 20-30 cm long(gemlings look like miniature adults).
Size at maturity: 100-150 meters long.
Time to maturity: 30-40 years

Combat: in a fight, prism dragons will make use of their physical strenght and near invulnerability, along with their ability of electromancy. Usually they try to deal with an opponent through physical means first, but if the opponent proves particulary though, the dragons will attack using electricity.

Race weaknesses: whether the prism dragons have minds of their own or are little more than mindless constructs, they rarely acts on anything unless instructed to do so by their riders or a person close to the riders. There has also been incidents when a prism dragon has done nothing to save itself from destruction as its rider was not present to tell it to do so.
