Star Wyrm.

General Description: of apparance, a star wyrm looks much like a cross between the typical eastern dragon and the typical western dragon. Their bodies are quite long and slender, the chest area being wider to allow for the muscles needed for a pair of arms and a pair of powerfull wings. Star wyrms are covered in tough ridged scales that can protect them against most of what the elements can throw at them, and they can even survive in vacuum for as long as an hour. On top of a star wyrm's head is a set of five branched horns-- three curving back from the forehead and two set on the side of the head just above the eyes. Along with the ridge of long, and similary branched spines running along the back, it is these horns that allow the star wyrms to interface with the systems of their starships, other vehicles and computers.
Through genetic engineering of themselves, the star wyrms have also given themselves fully functional hands, they have also created several sub-types of their own race to handle different tasks in their society. Some may been designed to pilot war- or exploration ships as their speciality, others may be engineered to be leaders, some to be warriors, some to be keepers of history and others to be representants to other races. However, the majority of the race are generalists-- allowed to pursue any way of life that interests them, though they usualy find it more difficult to attain a high rank in their profession than those designed for it.
Being an old starfaring race, the star wyrms were quite active in the interuniversal politics hundreds of years ago-- however, they have became increasingly withdrawn over time. Often finding younger races tiresome to deal with, and being quite occupied in a war with their cousins-- the chaos wyrms, they rarely bother with the society of the Multiverse any more.
Occationally however, star wyrm eggs have been found in unlikely places-- scattered through time and hidden, likely transported away when a star wyrm ship falls to their enemies. Held in stasis and well protected, these eggs are usualy collected by other star wyrms, a few however-- have hatched in the presence of those who stumble over them and the resulting wyrms staying with those they find to be acceptable caretakers.

Special Abilities: star wyrms have a great understanding of time-- being capable of traveling back and forth in time, and even alter events slightly to favor them. They are also capable of creating specialized time fields to protect their war ships and their homeworld against alterations in the timeline, this to ensure that at least some of their race will survive should their enemies try to wipe them out.
Star wyrms are also gifted with telepathy, and about one is ten is born with the talent to become a magic-user.
